Construction Volunteers 

We need the help of volunteers like you to help us make the dream of decent, affordable housing a reality for all our neighbors in Omaha! 

 

TASKS: 

We use our volunteers for just about every aspect of the build from framing, and siding, to finishing and cleaning up - so it’s best to register with a big heart and open mind. Generally speaking, your entire build site will have one main task for the day and it will be indicated in the “Additional Event Details” section at least two days prior to your volunteer date.  

 

SKILL REQUIREMENTS:  

No tools or experience are necessary, our supervisors will be happy to train everyone on the tasks of the day.  

 

DRESS CODE: 

Please wear closed toe shoes/weather-appropriate clothing. Remember this is an active construction site when choosing your attire.  

 

AGE RESTRICTIONS: 

Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age. Volunteers between 16 and 18 years of age will have restricted use of tools and other equipment.  

 

WHAT WE’LL PROVIDE: 

We’ll provide personal protection equipment (Hardhats, glasses, earplugs, gloves, etc.), the necessary tools, skilled staff to train you, and a safe build site.  

 

WHAT TO BRING:

Please bring a reusable water bottle so that you can fill up at our water station as needed. There will be a lunch break during the day (usually around noon). We do not provide lunch, so volunteers are welcome to bring their own lunch or leave during the break to get lunch nearby.

 

ADDRESS/LOCATION: 

We wish that we could tell you where you’ll be right when you sign up, however our build schedule is always being updated. Most of the time we know what location you’ll be assigned (and the task) on the Friday of the week before your volunteer date. You can check back using this link to see if there have been any updates to your date in the additional details section. Our system will automatically send you an email two days prior to your volunteer date with the information. If any changes are made after the two day prior reminder, we will email and text all affected volunteers. 

 

PARKING: 

Please park in any legal parking area on the street near the home you are volunteering at. Please be mindful of the people who reside on the street and do not park near driveways or fire hydrants. If you are volunteering with people you know we suggest carpooling as much as possible to reduce the number of cars parked in the area.  

 

If you are volunteering at one of our warehouses you are able to park in any of the available parking stalls. 

 

WEATHER CANCELATIONS: 

For snow-related cancellations, Habitat Omaha will follow the closing policy of Metropolitan Community College (MCC).  If MCC classes are canceled or scheduled for early dismissal, volunteers will also be canceled/dismissed. 

 

In most cases we will be canceling (or dismissing early) outdoor work assignments for volunteers will be anything lower than a temperature of 10° or higher than a temperature of 95°. 

 

We will email and text volunteers who are signed up if there is a cancelation or location change.
